Rio Olympic champion Connor Fields has left the intensive care unit after his heavy fall in the BMX final in Tokyo. The US bike association shared on Saturday that cerebral bleeding was established at Fields, but the investigations did not give any further injuries. The 28-year-old is still on the observation in the hospital.
Fields had lost control in his semi-final after a jump and was crashed on the ground with his head. He had then situated minutes on the racetrack before it was removed. The Olympiciam went to Niek Kimmann at the Dutch.
Even with the women, the medal decision was overshadowed by a serious accident in Ariake Urban Sports Park. The Australian Saya Sakakibara had fallen heavily in the semifinals and was also transported afterwards.
